Chapter 16
Neil was more than happy to meet them at the apartment, as he didnât think heâd see Sammy for a couple of days with their schedules clashing the first part of the week. Tom had Leopold join them and brought the hard drive. Once Neil arrived, Sammy introduced them and Andrew decided to cook one more meal in the apartment, so Sammy followed him into the kitchen to help while Neil and Tom waited for Leopold to arrive.
Sammy was impressed by the kitchen, and while he waited for Andrew to ask for help, he sat at the island watching. Andrew looked in his element, making fried chicken cutlets to put on the thick French bread he had found. He made his own guacamole and a kind of lemon mayonnaise that smelled so good it had Sammy salivating.
âYou are so different. I mean no offense, but-â
âYes, I know. I guess it took someone nearly taking my head off to realize I was treating everyone I met like crap.â
âTomâs cool. I liked him right away. I felt really sorry for him, working for you.â
Andrew laughed as he put the bacon on to fry. âI do too, thinking back on it. Neil seems nice too.â
âHeâs fucking fantastic. He is dominant, I mean, not like Tom, not to that extreme, but while he takes control, he still lets me be myself, and not the Sam I know, but the Sam I never met before.â
âI know what you mean.â
Sam lowered his voice. âSoâ¦how is the sex? Must be great, to make you change so much.â
Andrew flicked flour at him and laughed. âWell, yes, itâs absolutely incredible.â
âI donât mean to embarrass you, itâs just that my best friend is gay and we can talk about sex, but now that Iâm with Neil, it makes him nervous because Iâm not supposed to be with him.â
âWhat do you mean?â
Sammy told him a quick version of how he and Neil had gotten together and expected more surprise from Andrew, but all Andrew did was to tell Sammy how he and Tom found each other. âSo see, our men may have had ulterior motives at first, but our charms won them over.â
âI need to take you to meet Malcolm. He needs to hear that.â
âAnytime. It would be so nice to have friends. All the people who hung around with me were so fake. I could never talk to them like this.â
Sammy felt bad for Andrew, and that is an emotion he never would have thought heâd feel for the man.
âWell, you have one now.â
Andrew finished the sandwiches as he told Sammy, âThanks, and thank you for calling Neil.â
âIt sounds like a good cause.â
âIt is.â
Sammy helped Andrew take out the food and he watched as he sat on the floor in front of Tom, who was sitting on the couch. Leopold was barely touching his food as he was watching Neil for any sign that Neil and his custom laptop had made the progress they hoped for. Tom reached out and squeezed Leopoldâs arm.
